The Swine Flu is still spreading all over the world causing several deaths. As of Wednesday, April 29th, these are some of the latest counts on how many cases of Swine Flu and also ways that we are trying to prevent the illness.
_Deaths: 159 in Mexico, seven confirmed as swine flu and rest suspected. One confirmed in the U.S., a 23-month-old Texas child.
_Sickened: 2,498 suspected and 19 confirmed in Mexico. Confirmed elsewhere: 66 in U.S.; 13 in Canada; 14 in New Zealand; five in Britain; three in Germany; four in Spain; two in Israel; and one in Austria.
_Confirmed U.S. cases by state: 45 in New York, 11 in California, six in Texas, two in Kansas and one each in Indiana and Ohio, according to CDC and states.
_U.S. Food and Drug Administration issues emergency guidance allowing certain antiviral drugs to be used in broader range of population if needed. Public health emergency declared and roughly 12 million doses of Tamiflu from federal stockpile to be delivered to states.
_Cuba bans flights to and from Mexico; Argentina suspends flights from Mexico; U.S., European Union, other countries discourage nonessential travel there. Arriving travelers questioned at Mexico's U.S. border and world airports. Cruise lines avoid Mexico ports.
_Mexico suspends all schools until May 6. In U.S., some schools closed in Illinois, New York City, Texas, California, South Carolina, Connecticut, Minnesota and Ohio.
_In Mexico City, surgical masks given to the public, venues closed and public events canceled. President assumed new powers to isolate infected people. World Bank loaning Mexico more than $200 million.
_Egypt begins slaughtering nation's roughly 300,000 pigs as a precaution.
_World Health Organization alert at Phase 4 of 6, meaning disease spreads easily but isn't pandemic.
I have read so many articles about disease and illnesses quickly spreading but no one has ever taken control about the situations. In Africa or Asia they just sat back as several thousands people die and it was all because of dirty water. Yet when America and Europe are threatened by a certain illness they are cutting off all sources/connections to other countries, killing animals that may be an issue, and overall just making a difference in trying to end the illness. Too bad it cant be the same way when issues like this happen in other countries.

It is quite interesting that you have noted that the world health organization does little in Africa and Asia to stop epidemics but much in Europe and America to prevent these events. I guess money can buy many things, and protection from disease is one of them.
Money definitely is a factor of how different countries control diseases. Hopefully all countries everywhere in the world can recieve help with ending the Swine Flu though.
