Al Qaeda Strikes Again

In Afghanistan there is always a chance of attack by the Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Prominent leaders who are fighting against both the Al Qaeda and Taliban are also targeted as assassination victims. This morning, September 2, 2009 there was a suicide bombing at a mosque in Laghman, a town near Kabul. The bombing killed 16 people and wounded 56 others. Of the people killed was Dr. Abdullah Laghmani, the deputy director of the National Directorate of Security. Dr. Laghmani knew a lot about the Al Qaeda and was strongly fighting against both terrorists groups all over Afghanistan. The Taliban took full responsibility for this attack. Releasing a statement by a spokes person they claimed, “We were looking for him for a long time, but today we succeeded.” The group blames Dr. Laghmani for convictions in Kandahar Providence, when Laghmani was head of intelligence there.

The terrorist groups in Afghanistan will stop at nothing. It seems as if they will keep killing until they get their way. They continue killing many people, with absolutely no remorse. I am actually very surprised that the Taliban released a statement admitting to the murder. Clearly there is no shame in their violent crimes. It seems as if they will kill anyone in their way, no matter how much prominence the person has or not. These suicide bombings and bombings in general have been an ongoing problem in Afghanistan. These terrorists groups are serious about taking control. Something serious needs to be done about the havoc and deaths theses men have been causing for so long. One thing mentioned in the article was that Laghmani did not have much security and this may have made the attack easier. I agree with this to a certain extent, yes if he had more security it may have been prevented or the outcome may not have been as bad. But I don’t think the lack of security should be made a part of the causing his death. The Al Qaeda admitted responsibility and something should be done about them…before it gets worse than it is.
