Britain is facing a crisis of discovering new/ alternative energy sources within the next few years. The demand for power has increased dramatically for homes and businesses throughout Britain. Britain suffered through their first "blackout" in the early 1970's as a result of the notion to preserve coal for the country. The potential blackout stands to affect 16million people and is now having the government racing against time to come up with alternative energy sources and plans to combat the inevitable. It is predicted that over the next 10 years Britain's current energy source needs to be replaced. Ed Miliband, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, has come up with information that outlines the tentative dates for the energy shortfalls, due to the supply and demands. By 2015, there is the scheduled closure of nine oil and coal-fired plants. The government has approved for the construction of new nuclear power plants by 2018.

Under the circumstances Britain is facing an issue that most countries will be facing within the next 20 years, if we do not start now with dependable alternative energy sources. However, in the above case there seems to be opposing sides with the Energy and Climate Change office and Labour. With no agreement being reached except for the idea that more nuclear power plants need to be built; there needs to be an agreement on what alternative sources can be used in the meantime and possibly forever. But, there is always the issue of science backing up the idea of alternative energy becoming a better source.
