Cuba's Environmental Cleanup

This is an article is on Cuba lowering its global footprint. It seems that in the wake of many environmental disasters, Cuba has worked very hard to clean up the carbon footprint that has been out of control for so long. Cuba has had many environmental disasters in the last decades. These disasters have devastated Cuba and its people. This has motivated Cuba to rethink their way of using energy, farming, and transportation. Over the years of Cuba's history, deforestation has left the country eroded and bare. Along with the unhealthy use of energy that so many countries become accustomed with, Cuba had quite a large carbon footprint. Since being a socialist nation, Cuba has the power to implement better power habits and farming habits. Through breaking up of large corporations in Cuba, organic farming, solar power, imported bicycles, revised power grid, and new stoves, Cuba has shown that anyone can significantly reduce their carbon footprint. This can be best preformed in a socialist government. This shows that socialist governments put people first and are the future of the environmental reform.

After reading this article, I have high hopes for Cuba. Along with the last article I read about Brazils reduction of deforestation, this article gives me real hope that the world can learn from its mistakes and make a good environmental impact. I have always known that Cuba is not the model of freedom in our global world, but, with the resignation of Fidel, Cuba's future is really looking up. Fidel Castro’s brother seems to be much more lenient. He seems to understand what is best for Cuba. Along with this new ecologic reform, Cuba could possibly become a model for other countries to follow, not only socially but also environmentally.

I believe Cuba is setting a great example for environmental clean-up. They are truly an example other countries should take a blueprint from Cuba. Just to be able to take a break from business as usual and focus on a subject that will change peoples lives and outlooks if they are seeing people in authority doing just that.
