Former Miss California Sues Over Religious Discrimination

Former Miss California, USA, Carrie Prejean sued pageant officials Monday, August 31st, for libel, slander and religious discrimination. Accusing them of telling her to stop mentioning God even before her controversial remarks against gay marriage. Prejean sued California pageant executive director Keith Lewis and actress and former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, who served as a co-director before resigning in protest of Prejean. Prejean was fired in June by pageant officials who said she missed several scheduled appearances. Her attorney, Chuck LiMandri, said that wasn't true, and Prejean was ousted because of controversial remarks in April during the Miss USA pageant that marriage should be between a man and a woman. She was named first runner-up, and many believe she lost her shot at the Miss USA crown because of her answer. LiMandri said Prejean filed suit only after he sought detailed information on what events Prejean missed. "I wanted to give them every opportunity to provide the basis for those claims," LiMandri said. He said he found no proof that Prejean missed events. "There were no contract violations," he said.

I agree that her answer is no doubt controversial. The question itself is a controversial. I believe that any way she answered that there would be controversy. I commend her for answering the question how she honestly felt based on what she religiously believes. I would not ask anyone to answer any question with an answer other than how they truly feel, especially when you are representing yourself and religious beliefs in a contest. This accusation is so hard to prove though, even if it was true. It is a he said she said battle, and no one can really no if she didn’t win or got fired over this situation. They can maybe prove the formal reason used for firing her was not legitimate but that still does not mean she go booted for her answer. Bottom line on my part everyone should be true to themselves and be honest when they are asked how they feel. I’d rather someone tell me how they really truly feel about something instead of sugar coating it to try and win me over. Sticking to and not being ashamed of religious beliefs is how you stay true to yourself and if that is accomplished there is nothing to feel wrong about.

I think it is pretty sad how they can say how she cannot mention G-d. People may or may not believe in one, two, or no G-d at all, but if she believed and that is her answer then she should be able to say whatever she wants. Freedom of Speech.
