According to ABC News, G-7 and Mexico has decided to give at risk groups the first swine flu vaccines. The G-7 includes United States, France, Japan, Canada, Germany, Britain, and Italy. The G-7 countries had a daylong meeting at the European Union Headquarters to discuss measures they will have to take since Swine flu season is approaching the northern hemisphere. They decided that is was best to start with groups that would be most harmed by the disease. The risk groups are pregnant women, children, health workers, and people with risky health conditions. Schools in the G-7 except for U.S. and Britain have closed schools in hopes to prevent further spread of the virus. The World Health Organization, WHO, suggests that if schools are going to be closed it must be done at an early stage so that percentage exposed is lowered. U.S. and Britain only plan keep school open unless there is a special case.

I am very happy to hear about the G-7 response to vaccines and the swine flu epidemic. According to the European Union Commissioner swine flu is dominant influenza virus. So it is important that all these countries act quickly. This virus alone has killed over 3,000 people. The positive thing is the world has so many people in it that the number is not really that big but still if the issue is not handle quickly than the virus could possibly mutate making it harder to create a new vaccine and producing to the masses. I am glad that it has been suggested to close school at an early stage so that it can be quarantine. Being that I know UNCG has had a couple of cases I know if we have anymore than we too will have to close. It’s amazing and sad how one virus brings together whole countries. It shows how little the world really is.
