This article deals with the "supposed" ignorance that individuals have towards the threat of global warming and the vast changes in our global climate. One person targeted in this article is Obama. He states ""Few challenges facing America and the world are more urgent than combating climate change. The science is beyond dispute and the facts are clear." (Washington Post) The article goes on to talk about the chance of earth citizens having the possibility of finding another life source in the near future, and that there is no need to fight the global climate change. However, the man to write about this; Dyson, is no climate scientist. However, other scientists go on to report that we need to act fast with the advanced threats of global warming looming over heads. "Mitigating CO2 and other greenhouse gases is increasingly seen as an insurance policy against catastrophic climate change. You don't have to know for certain that something dire will happen to take action to reduce its likelihood". (Washington Post) However, other scientists rebuttal these scientific claims and state that climate has always been a complex system and always changing. Sometimes the most advanced physicist isn't equipped to make a solid prediction.
There have always been mixed opinions with controversy dealing with global warming. Some pay attention to it, others just shrug it off. Many state its all just a conspiracy, means nothing, just that the earth is changing on its own like its done for thousands of years. That could be true, but the changes seem to be happening at a faster rate then recent studies of past centuries show. Evidence is starting to show all around us, between ice caps melting at a rapid pace, sweltering days, more fierce hurricanes, and a rapid change in weather; most of it deadly. This all could just be the earth's climate changing on its own, but we have to ask ourselves why is it all happening at such a rapid rate? Even if people don't believe in global warming we can all lend a helping hand to try and keep our planet a little healthier. " The worldwide community of environmentalists--most of whom are not scientists--holds the moral high ground, and is guiding human societies toward a hopeful future. Environmentalism, as a religion of hope and respect for nature, is here to stay. This is a religion that we can all share, whether or not we believe that global warming is harmful". (Washington Post)
