In this article Kimberly Hefling discusses the just what the title says, mental wounds of war. She talks about the soldiers that come home from war with mental illness and things of the sort. If they don’t have physical injuries then often times they slip through the cracks of the system and are not compensated properly. She says that the system as it is does not take care of our veterans properly. In certain cases people were forced to move to receive proper care. They say that they are working to improve the situation. As for now it is a sad scene.
Seeing that our country would send people to war, and then neglect to take care of them when they return home, truly disappoints me. I am one who does not agree with war to begin with. Bob Dylan sang “How many times must the cannonballs fly before they are forever banned?…How many times can a man turn his head and pretend that he just doesn’t see?” The first line asks why we must go to war, the second line could mean many things. You can take it to be asking how long we are going to ignore the huge problem looking us in the face, the problem of our government not taking care of our veterans when they return home from war. If we are going to continue to send off young men to kill people then we should at least have a system that cares for them when they return home.
