South Africa Launches Child Vaccination Campaign

In South Africa, health centers are popping up all around and health care workers are going door to door to bring vitamins to the children. Because of the bad conditions, the children of South Africa are susceptible to many diseases that normally wouldn’t kill children in more developed countries. Pneumonia, measles, and diarrhea are all common cause of death in children under the age of five in South Africa. The worst part of this is the fact that South Africa is the most developed country in all of Africa. Health workers are doing their best to provide immunity boosting vitamins to three million children. These vitamins will help build up their immune systems so they are capable of fighting common preventable diseases. Coupled by UNICEF, the Health Ministry’s leader Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi is starting to raise awareness for AIDS and helping to find a way to lower the numbers of South Africans that are dying from it.

This article makes me realize not everyone has the chance to live the life I do. I may not have all the best things in life but I have a roof over my head, food to eat, and the option to go to a doctor when I need one. These children in South Africa are dying from diseases that, as a child, I lived through and was able to take medicine to get rid of. Its awful that these children have to live in these kind of conditions and have to rely on volunteers to give them basic necessities. The people that have given their time and effort to help these kids are amazing people and, if I was able to, I would devote myself to the same thing.
