Germany has decided to come up with an alternative to how they live. In the city of Hamburg Harbor, they have decided to become all things green, the entire city. They have announced the development of becoming a "green" city with the help of Tec Architecture and ARUP an engineering group. The eco city will have all the latest advancements and technologies of a green design. This is the only project of this kind in the world, which is seeking certification from the three major building rating systems. The city will contain 10 eco-friendly buildings that will lower their total energy consumption by 30%. This eco-city will use a mix of energy with power generation. This will also include wind turbines and solar power for hot water and lights. Flowers and plants will cover rooftops that will also help with the water runoff and make the interior cool.
Personally, I believe this is a great idea to come up with. The example Hamburg Harbor is setting is a forward movement where action is taking place, more than just mere talk. I do wonder the price tag for these changes and what will be the complete benefits for the individuals living in this city. Or will residents have to pay an extraordinary amount of taxes or fees to keep up with the new and coming infrastructure of the city. There are always three sides to every situation and story. Overall, I believe they are creating a great modeling tool for the rest of the world to eventually follow.
