This article talks about the careful strategies that are going into disband the Taliban. The U.S. and the Afghanistan government are planning to simply weaken the Taliban so that they will not be able to challenge the Afghan government or be able to aide al-Quaeda. The main goal of both the U.S. and the Afghan government is that they want the people to support the government since the Taliban has become such a political force in its own right. The Taliban is obviously receiving financial support from the government which allows them to continue to strive in the way that they have. The Taliban is such a large group that the only way that the Afghan government can difuse the situation is to have a stable government so that others will want to be apart of it but at this time the government is in shambles that it doesn't seem like anything will change too soon.
I feel that the Taliban is definitely a different group than the U.S. or the Afghan government has dealt with. This group is very professional and it will take a lot for them to be disassembled. I am very sure that it will take the commitment of both the U.S. and the Afghan governement to make a change. I feel that this group has been given too much time to go and do whatever they choose and it is past time for the government to step and take charge. Unfortunately because of the caliber of this group this is nothing that either group can step into lightly and careful planning needs to take place. I feel that the dismemberment of the Taliban will eventually begin to regulate what's going on in Afghanistan.
