Arctic ice cap "to disappear"

A team of polar researchers expect to see arctic ice caps disappear completely during summer months in the near future. Findings on the Arctic ice cap have lead the scientists to believe that it could be as soon as 10-20 years. The team began their search in northern Canada, measuring ice thicknesses and temperatures. The first year ice thickness was normal but the multi-year ice has apparently been shrinking rapidly. Enough melting could cause massive flooding that could displace one-fourth of the worlds population. This finding will be presented to the United Nations in December in an effort to see greenhouse emissions better maintained on a global scale.
This article is somewhat informative but it mostly brushes over a very intricate topic. The findings by the research team are not surprising as I have read about many other findings that are very similar. The conclusions about how soon the ice caps could disappear is scary considering what the researchers say it could cause. Of course, I have read these types of articles many times so I am less shocked than I am curious about exactly how researchers come to such conclusions. This article merely presents the situation and uses quotes to show that the situation is a global problem that needs immediate attention. In order for this attention grabber to lead to effective action, readers of this article will have to dig deeper and find out the rest of the story.

I think that something should be done about this. Global warming is something serious and 10 to 20 years means that something is going on.
