Clinton urges Arabs on Israel ties

This week Hillary Clinton met with Arab officials to urge them to take steps toward coming to a peaceful agreement with Israel. Right now the Arab states are demanding that settlement construction halt in the West Bank. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has said he would not respond to such demands. Israel has long been a country of conflict between the Israeli people and the Palestinians. Both groups feel like Israel belongs to them. While the Palestinians say that is their land given to them by Allah, the Israelis do not argue from a religious stand point, except for the religious extreme groups in Israel. The West Bank has been given to the Palestinians as their land, but with Jewish settlements scattered inside of them. Most of the Israelis who live in these settlements do not do it for political or religious reasons, but because it is cheaper to live in them due to government incentives. The US is urging the Arab states to not wait for the “perfect package” but to agree to peace now, so the violence will not continue.

It is amazing to me how much death and destruction is done in the name of religion. Faith is supposed to be a tool of peace, and yet people are killed everyday in Israel by suicide bombers who call themselves “martyrs for Allah”. In my opinion Israel should cease building settlements in the West Bank and let the Palestinians have “their” land. If it would bring peace to the nation, and people would stop dying then it would be worth it.
