This article is about the education system in Africa and how the students are falling victim to the apartheid legacy of South Africa. Although the system of education is South Africa, known as the
Bantu system, is suppossedly integrated, the divide and achievement gaps between the white and black students still have a great divide. When tested, the teachers of these school scored less than 50 percent on a sixth grade level. The students in these schools are eager to learn and have high dreams of becoming accountants, engineers, and doctors, however, the education system is failing these children who are banking on getting a decent education in order to escape from poverty.
When I read this article I felt a since of helplessness for these students in these South African countries. I thought to myself, "what can I do to help these children get a better education so that they have a chance to live a good life?' Being an education major, hearing about these stories from other countries arounf the globe really shock me. Not that I don't realize that these poor conditions do exist, I just seem to too often forget that the students currently in the education system that we have in America, although it may not be the greatest in the world, are still so fortunate compared to other students like these in South Africa. Many students take their education for granted and do not realize how important it is for their futures.

I agree, this is sad. Especially that the kids want to be educated, want to be taught, want to learn, and they are completely being let down. Its devastating to them when they try and try and try and get no where. Maybe their educational avenues will open up over the next few years and they'll have better access to the educations that they so desperately want to achieve.
