This article is stating that in many countries in Africa, where war is occurring, rape is also a huge problem. It is a problem because even though it is rarely children and women responsible for any conflict, they are the most likely to be abused and raped. Women are raped daily. "Up to half a million women were raped in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, up to 60,000 women were attacked during the Croatia and Bosnia wars and hundreds of thousands of women were subjected to sexual violence amid a long-running conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, says the United Nations." In this article Hilary Clinton states that she thinks the UN should form a group to help combat the growing problem of rape that takes place in war time. The UN agreed with her and unanimously passed a resolution to stop sexual violence. I think It is great that Hilary Clinton has pushed for the UN to take action against the atrocities that plague war torn countries. We watched a video in class about the horrible things that have taken place in congo in the past few years. And it's not just happening there. Women are being abused and their husbands killed. Generally if the husband is not killed he will abandon his wife out of shame. These women's bodies are being mutilated, and their mental health will forever be affected by what has happened to them. The fact that UN is willing to step in a try to help, makes me hopeful for the future. War is so sad, but when it involves the corruption of the innocent, it even worse.
