This article tackles a problem that affects us all, and that problem is climate change. It's a big problem and could be very disastrous in the future if not dealt with effectively and quickly. Luckily scientists in Singapore and Switzerland think they might have a partial solution. This is new research that was published in Global Change Biology: Bioenergy. The article revealed how we could replace gasoline with biofuel from processed waste, like the garbage that fills our landfills everywhere. That process could cut the global carbon emissions by 80%. That's a huge number! For example, a second generation biofuel called cellulosic ethanol comes from processed garbage from cities and towns. This process causes no problems to the environment. The article goes on to describe how paper and cardboard are promising solutions too that use only clean energy. This process can actually meet part of the world's energy needs while also combating carbon emissions and fossil fuel dependency. The article then goes on to give you details about how many litres of cellulosic ethanol could be produced.
I think that it's great that we are becoming bale to find other ways to fuel cars and create energy. Since the world has realized that carbon emissions are problematic and that global warming will have a major impact on the future I think we have really stepped on the gas to find answers to these problems. Thank goodness I think we already have the intelligence and technology to be able to find final answers to these problems but only time can really tell.
I think this is also a great idea. I remember back in high school there was a guy who had a car that ran off of vegetable oil. I have also seen all the land fills in places such as Africa, especially the huge, mind-blowing ones in the middle of the slums, and it would be amazing if we could do something with all that waste.
I also agree with using alternative energy. My dad uses vegetable oil to run his diesel truck and it has by far helped the environment and his wallet! Everyone should consider using alternative energy or investing in a hybrid automobile.
