Summary:
The highly anticipated vaccine for the H1N1 virus is being shipped out as we speak. Three makers of the vaccine have released shipments for public use. 75.3 million Doses are expected to be dispatched through December of this year. This was the first of many shipments where over 90,000 sites will be receiving the vaccine. There are two types of vaccine that you can choose from. A flu shot made from inactivated/ dead virus and a nasal spray made from live, weakened virus. As of right now we know that A single dose induces a strong immune response in healthy adults and children as young as 9, though children younger than that may need two doses. It was thought that seeing an immune response to the vaccine would happen in 21 after the shot but researchers have seen results in as few as 8-10. Trials are still being tested on pregnant women.
Reactions:
I am personally happy I found this article because being a Public Health Education major, I have become very health conscious. Although I don’t like the fact of getting a shot knowing the options makes it more compatible to my lifestyle. I like the option of a nasal spray but not with a live form of the virus. At least with the shot the virus is inactive/dead. I’m personally torn because each option has good and bad aspects. I am a person who likes facts and isn’t easily persuaded. This article gave me some very important information that I will use to make a highly intelligent and well thought out decision. I only hope that more articles come out stating all symptoms/ side effects of the vaccine as well as any relevant information.
