On Sunday, the first decapitated woman was found in Juarez since the drug war started. In the beginning, officials were unable to identify her. She was described as being between the ages of 25 and 30 and had two tattoos on her lower back. Her body was covered with a blanket and her head was in a plastic bag beside her body. On Wednesday she was finally identified as 38 year old Claudia Martinez. Officials there say that beheadings of women are rare and this one was the first time one had been displayed on this manner. They also say that over 100 females have been killed this year in the city that pertains to the drug war. According to officials, beheadings are associated with Zetas, which a Gulf drug cartel.

Out of all the crime that I have reported on in Mexico over the last few weeks, I think that this one has been the most horrific. It is very sad and disturbing that this is happened to this innocent young woman. It is sad and disturbing for it to happen to anyone. I just wonder what do these drug cartels get out of killing and beheading people. Is it to make an example out of some people or do they get pleasure out of it? Do they stop to think about how this is going to affect the victims’ families? What if it was their mother, sister, daughter, etc? I think that if the drug cartels stop to think about what they are doing, they would not commit these crimes.
