Africa: The Final Frontier

IBM recently signed a contract with an Indian company to provide cell-phone coverage and other data plans to Africa. This is just another deal in a series of projects IBM has been launching towards Africa, sinking money into the countries in the region with the intent to promote growth in technology consumption and industry. It appears that African countries are going to be the next China, and IBM is trying to get in on the ground floor.

Of course, this means nothing but good things for those countries fortunate enough to receive the benefits from this new deal. For too long the continent as a whole has been considered "third world." With the influx of money and infrastructure, it is only a matter of time before someone steps up and creates an explosion of growth and prosperity the region deserves.
