Children With Disabilites are Being Discriminated in Ireland

In Ireland, children with disabilities are not getting the proper education they need in the school system. They are being discriminated in the schools because the schools are excluding children with special needs and the professionals in the schools like teachers in these schools are not getting involved. The teachers do not have the right knowledge to teach children with disabilities. They don't even have the right tools to teach these students. These children with special needs are looked at by the teachers and even parents of students that do not have a disability. These children with special needs are said that their disability is the main problem of why they can not be properly educate. In schools where the parents pay a lot of money for their child's education, children with disabilities are looked at as a threat to the child with out a disability "the gold star student". The teachers and parents are ignoring the talents these children hold and make it hard for them to show their talents.

I feel it is very unacceptable, and nonprofessional for the school system and is professionals in Ireland to get away with discriminating a child over something that is not in their control. Students with special needs should be given the same right to learn as a child that does not have special needs. In Ireland, the Department of Education and Science is "responsible for ensuring equality of education for all children" but they have let children with special needs slip through the cracks. The department needs to take a few steps back and reread their responsibilities. They need to ensure that proper funding is going into the school system to ensure that children with special needs have the right tools in the classroom to be properly education. They need to also make sure that their professionals in the schools get the right training to be able to teach these students.

It is alarming and disappointing that schools systems in the world are still refusing to provide adequate education to all students, including those with disabilities. As an education major, I know what difficulties that may arise when dealing with children with special needs. But these difficulties are not things that should hinder the education process. I don't see how people can sit back and just let this discrimination occur. I know that there has got to be some people who are equally appalled by this and who are able to take a stand on the matter. I would like to see that soon!

Im very shocked to hear about this, I feel that everyone should have the chance to recieve a quality education no matter what their circumstances may be. It is unacceptable that school systems still tend to shun students with disabliites just beacues they may be more difficult to handle than other students without disabilites.Something definately needs to be done about this, beacuse withholding these children from a proper education; is only going to further inable them to be able to funtion in society.

This is so sad! Children with disabilities are still people, and capable of learning. They deserve the right to an equal education!
