Church’s Qur’an bonfire to go ahead despite global protests
Terry Jones a Pentecostal preacher in Florida does not agree with the Islam’s he thinks that they are a work of the devil and has set up a trailer in the church yard where he plans to burn at least two hundred copies of the Qur’an. He plans on doing this on the ninth anniversary of 9/11, mostly because of the plan to build a mosque next to ground zero where Americans lost their lives. He believes that the book teaches that Jesus is not the son of god. Terry preaches at a small church of about fifty people needless to say they do not all agree with this outrage either and he has lost a few of his members because of this.
The commander if the forces in Afghanistan jumped in because he sees this as a huge risk for our soldiers. He is determined to go through with this act no matter what anyone says or thinks. He says that he is continuing to pray to god for the right answers of what he should do because of the adverse risk that it could have on our troops.
My opinion towards this action is that I believe that Terry is expressing his freedom religion and speech. Even though I disagree with him burning the Qur’an I think that is taking things to the extreme and I think that he could get his point across in other ways. As far as the plans to build the mosque next to ground zero, that I am opposed.
