In Somalia, a majority of the children are very limited to education and learning opportunities. The enrollment rate for children in school is very low. Making the children education level one of the lowest in the world. There is very little or no funding for educational programs, making their literacy levels for boys and girls attending schools one of the lowest in the world as well. The enrollment rate for girls is at a 37% and for boys the enrollment rate is at 48%. This is because of the socio-economic, political realities, cultural, and even the traditional attitudes in the country where gender plays a big role. In the schools one out of five girls will have finished one complete full cycle of primary school in order to move into the secondary school to further there education. With this types of attitudes it is hard for girls to be enrolled in school or even be able to stay in school. The majority of the schools are in the urban areas of the country making it hard for the boys and girls to get to this areas to go to school making the enrollment rate even lower.
As a future educator this was an eye opening for me. We as Americans need not to take our education for granted. We are giving many opportunities to get a well rounded education, well as for children in Somalia have very little opportunities to get an education. I do believe in keeping tradition but when it is comes to a child's education to better their future, tradition should be flexible so the child could receive a good education to better his or her future.

Many of social problems that we are facing today can be summarized in low education levels. Somalia is poor country that many people are dying each year because of different diseases that can be prevented by simple prevention. Unfortunately, it also suffers from lack of educational opportunity among its people.
