Florida robbers strap ‘bomb’ to bank worker in heist

Three robbers kidnapped a bank teller and used him to help rob a bank near the city of Miami in the US State of Florida on 24 September morning. The FBI said the Bank of America worker was abducted at home by three robbers on Friday early morning. He was then fixed a suspected bomb at his chest and taken by two of the robbers to a branch in Coral Gables to help them steal cash. The robbers escaped in a stolen red Ford Mustang and the bank teller was unharmed. The police are working to detonate the suspected bomb and have warned students at the nearby University of Miami to stay away. The FBI is still investigating whether the teller was a victim or an accomplice of the robbery.

In the world where terrorist attacks are prevalent, bombs are better weapons than guns for all kinds of crimes that have elements of threats because bombs can cause a larger scale of destruction. The police are right to alert students to stay away from the scene to prevent unnecessary casualties. But they should also warn citizens of the risks of personal security as the robbers are still at large. The fact that the robbers have fled in a stolen car may suggest that they are experienced thieves and robberies. The Police should also appeal to citizens for their cooperation to take the criminals into custody.

It remains a mystery whether the bank teller was involved in the robbery or not. The fact that he was abducted at his apartment suggests that the robbers knew about his background or at least had followed him home for several times to prepare for the kidnap. It is still a question why the robbers did not kidnap him on the street and threaten him directly to steal money from the bank for them.
