"as you kill, you will be killed"

Al-Queda leader Osama bin Laden said that France could not live in peace after issuing a ban on veils worn in public places and supporting NATO in Afghanistan. Last month there was the abduction of seven foreigners, including five Frenchmen in northern Niger's Sahara desert. Osama bin Laden stated that this was only a warning, but showed his fury over the two issues, which was his justifucation towards the violence.
Later in the open warning he added "How could you take part in occupying our countries and support the Americans in killing our children and women and then expect to live in peace and security?" "It is very simple - as you kill, you will be killed, as you take hostages, you will be taken hostages, and as you compromise our security, we will compromise your security." The al-Queda leader also called on the Sarkozy administration to immediately withdraw troops from Afghanistan.
The French Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux quickly responded to the message as he said that his country was under "real" terror threat and called for "total vigilance." We do know that the (terrorist) threat is real and vigilance must be total," Hortefeux said while addressing a National Assembly meeting in capital Paris.
The quote "It is very simple - as you kill, you will be killed, as you take hostages, you will be taken hostages, and as you compromise our security, we will compromise your security," literally scared me. The fact that he stated it so bluntly that the killings, the hostages, and the security breaching was "very simple" made me worried for not only my safety but the safety of the French. As I was reading it I kept thinking to myself when will the killing end? When will society intervene in peaceful ways, rather than war and more bloodshed?
