In Moscow three suicide bombers orchestrated an attack on the Chechen Parliament Tuesday killing at least three people. A representative of the Russian Prosecutors Office Vladimir Markin, told CNN that two police officers and a civilian died in the attack. He also stated that six other officers and eleven civilians were injured. Later on the President of Chechen Ramzan Kadyrov stated to CNN that of the sixteen wounded only two remained in the hospital. The bombers disguised themselves as lawmakers in order to slip into the building unnoticed one of the bombers set off a bomb at the entrance killing himself. The other two managed to make it to the ground floor of the building as they were being apprehended by security the set off bombs blowing themselves up as well. The explosions also caused lots of damage to the parliament building according to a reporter blowing out several windows and walls, but the parliament was able to resume its work hours and went ahead with meetings that were planned for that day. Kadyrov also announced that the families of those who died in the attack would receive three-hundred thousand rubles (equivalent to about $10,000) and those injured would receive 100,000 rubles (about 3,300).
The spread of terrorism is moving at a rapid pace around the world, it’s a very scary thing to think about. These bombers in particular were part of a rebel group that has ideologies along the same line as those of Al Qaeda members. The rebels have launched many attacks and have been feuding with the government since 1990’s trying to gain independence. However in recent years their reasons for fighting have changed. The fight has now been aimed to establish Islamic rule in Chechnya. I think that this incident should be an eye opener for Russian governments to be more combative against terrorism in their region. They need to come up with a more effective way for dealing with the rebels that will result in the least amount of bloodshed. It should also be a call to the rest of the world to come together to stop terrorism, because terrorism is a global problem it is happening everywhere. So everyone needs to be involved in fighting to help end it.
