The cholera outbreak in Haiti is continuing to cause devastation. More than 80 people have died in the last 24 hours across the country, according to the health ministry, taking the death toll to 724. Officials say that sox out of ten regions are reporting outbreaks. Cholera causes diarrhea and vomiting, which leads to severe dehydration. Cholera can kill quickly if not treated with antibiotics and fluids. Aid agencies are working hard to attempt to contain the outbreak in Port-au-Prince. There are many concerns that the outbreak will reach the camps that house over 1.1 million earthquake survivors.
The rapid increase of cholera is making it harder to control. If cholera reaches the camps it will cause massive destruction. More relief efforts need to be made in helping the people in Haiti. Since the earthquake they have struggled to survive. To completely eliminate cholera the river is going to require extensive cleaning. The recent hurricane help the disease spread and now it is going to be harder to remove. I suspect that many more will die from cholera and the disease will probably be present for awhile. Clearly more help is needed in Haiti to help control this situation.

This is a double whammy for Haiti. I can't help feeling devastated by this. I am glad they are trying to educate people on what to do to protect and save themselves though.
I feel so bad for everything these people are going through. I hadn't even heard about the cholera until today...
I have done a few of my blogs on Cholera and its so sad to hear about what these people are going through. It sounds terrible and it must be even worse to experience. People are trying to educate others on how to avoid catching Cholera but it seems like the number of deaths are still on the rise. Hopefully with more effort to inform people about how to prevent the disease and getting clean drinking water, the numbers of deaths will start to decrease.
