UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking

In a positive story for human trafficking, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime has announced that the new UN Voluntary Trust Fund, created to help victims, is being supported by the governments of six countries.

Egypt, Qatar, Thailand, Malaysia, Luxembourg, and Belarus are the countries that have pledged their support to the fund, which can only work as successfully as projected with global efforts. This fund will not only help the victims of sex trafficking but of all forms of human trafficking, including slave labor. "It will provide humanitarian, legal, and financial aid to victims through established channels of assistance."

I believe the Trust Fund will be a great addition to the fight against human trafficking, especially once more governments get on board. While funding from the private sector will help, I think that the actual governments getting on board will be a bigger illustration to traffickers of a more united front against crimes against humanity.
