Musical artist, Kalimba Marichal, commonly known as Kalimba, is being charged with rape of a seventeen year old girl in Mexico. The artist was is Mexico performing in a concert in the Caribbean city of Chetumal. The girl involved is Daiana Gomez, an escort who was with Kalimba at the concert . After the concert, Kalimba invited the seventeen year old escort to a hotel along with another escort who was sixteen years old for what they thought was an after party. When they reach the room, the victim said that there was three men in the room naked. The door closed behind them and Kalimba allegedly hit Daiana, told her to shut and then proceeded to rape her. If convicted of this crime, the popular pop sensation can serve up to fifty years.

This crime is not the biggest one that is happening in Mexico now. There is a drug war that has claimed 34,000 and has been a national security problem but because a celebrity's name is in something else, the news media has deemed this as the "big story". Kalimba has Mexican as well as African descent and the media is having a field day with it. A tabloid in Mexico called La Prensa had their headline on this story saying "Se Ve Las Negras" which means "he seems black." This can have a double meaning, one which means his future seems going down a dark road or he likes black woman. This goes to show how the world hasn't changed as much as we think when it comes to racism.
