Harsh title isn't it? That's what caught my eye to this article. Basically, it was affirming that the crime that is emphasized in the media about Central and South America is not only true; but, apparently worse than previously thought. Apparently this is from a report from the controversial WikiLeaks, November 2009. Brazil is fighting organized crime from drugs to gangs- gangs that control the poorer areas of the economically high country. Drug related murder has soared in Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. There has also been an increase in gang activity. Drugs are being shipped from Bolivia to Africa, Europe and of course the United States. Europe is thinking about expanding its counternarcotics unit to fight "third world organized crime". The USA was once a strong front on the war on drugs; but, our attention has been directed to the Middle East, fighting terrorism and Al Qaeda. The United States once trained Colombian soldiers to fight the war on drugs, in the article, they credited the Unites States for that. Colombia and Mexico are teaming up to fight the corruption. Other positive news was that Ecuador and Colombia patched things things up after 2 years of disagreement. Brazil is stepping up their defense of organized crime in the slums and hope to host the 2016 Olympics.
