Kyerre Hawkins,Teenage Roberry in Howard County, 1/20/11
As you know crime occurs every day almost every minute. According to the Crime Survior Guide, 1 violent crime is committed every 19 seconds. This is disturbing news for our society. One thing I find interesting that not only adults are committing crimes but children are as well. In the article about the Howard County Crime Roundup 3 teenagers were charged with knifepoint robbery. All three of these teenagers live in Columbia. One of the suspects robbed two people walking late on a Tuesday night. The police chased them down and searched them on the day of the crime. Two of the teenagers were 16 years old and were charged as adults after being arrested. The third boy was 15 and name is being held confidential but was charged as a juvenile. 16 year old, Ronald Lewis and Mawami Uhra Barber were both charged with two counts of armed robbery. Barber received an additional two counts of second degree assault, one count of resisting an arrest and false statements to a police officer. The thing that bothers me the most about this report is that they are teenagers. I'm not saying that adults committing crimes is acceptable but to me its even worse when children are doing it. The question I ask is why are they are doing this and who are guardians and what role are they playing in their lives. Many people say that this behavior has to do with what youth watch on television, the types of games they play and they people they hang around. I believe all of these can contribute to this type of behavior. The most important thing that society has to do is stop this trend. This, of course, is not the first time one might read of a crime like this and sadly it wont be the last if we do not think of a solution to put a stop to this. http://crimesurvivorguide.tripod.com/CrimeSurvivorGuide/id1.html http://ellicottcity.patch.com/articles/howard-county-crime-roundup-burglary-in-ellicott-city-3-charged-in-columbia-knifepoint-robbery
