Technology Causing Problems in Relationships all Over the World

People all over the world are becoming completely consumed with technology. It is a serious problem when it comes to relationships and interaction with people face to face. There is too much of a reliance on texting, email, and social networking systems and not enough live, face to face conversations. Why care? Because it is causing a strain in families and is a cause of distance between spouses and parents and their children.

When different types of technology are used to communicate sometimes things can be misinterpreted and cause problems between people. Someone might send a message intending to be joking or sarcastic and the person receiving the message might take it in an entirely different way because they do not hear the tone in which the message was meant to be read in. These mishaps cause rifts between people all the time and it is because no one can seem to handle actually speaking to another person.

Though technology can cause problems it can also be a huge asset to relationships. Texting and emailing can be a good way to keep in touch with a significant other or family member throughout the day when you cannot be with that person. It becomes a problem when someone is on a date or having a conversation with another person and they cannot help themselves from checking their texts or their facebook account. Technology is fine when it is used in healthy doses but sometimes people can get a bit addicted with it and cause problems with everyday relationships.

Sometimes I have mixed feelings about this because I think I would lose all connection with some vital people in my life if it weren't for Facebook. I have friends that live in Norway, Denmark, South Africa, and Hawaii and without Facebook, we'd probably lose touch. However, I also really miss the effort of picking up your home phone and calling someone, rather than just texting. And I've definitely noticed how having devices that automatically spell check affects my writing and spelling. I feel like there is an intellectual price to pay for convenience.
