The article that I chose is based on research done on Africa, but more importantly on the women in Africa. This article is about the spread of AIDS and HIV, although this is about Africa this is definitely a global issue that is effecting many different countries around the world. The funding for AIDS medication in Africa is severely low they do not have enough money to provide medication that is needed to help prevent more people from becoming infected with HIV/AIDS. A reported ten billion dollars is required in order for them to meet the pharmaceutical needs in their country. They also need the money to better educate people on the proper way to use condoms so that they may protect themselves and not increase the numbers of people already infected. Even though everyone is being affected by this global issue the article directs the attention to the women because of their higher rates and also because the transmission of AIDS through pregnancy and child birth. In Africa sixty percent of the population infected with AIDS is women with ages ranging from fifteen to twenty-five.

Also while reading this article there were so many things that caught my attention, these women are discriminated against and blamed for the gender inequalities because of the high AIDS rates in these women. There has been a decrease in the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa and with the new technologies and medicines the women are able to have healthy babies that this virus is not being transmitted to but without the proper funds both the mother and the child will have to live with this virus until they die.

I like to choose articles that also have some kind of moral to my blog and this is definitely a reality check to those who are careless about sex, some people (children) are born without a choice and others take advantage of the choices they have. This is just a little food for thought.

This blog is very interesting to me. We talked a lot about HIV/Aids in a Womens Genders Studies class. It is amazing that the government claims to provide free condoms and then claims that they doubled the amount that they distributed. Orginally they provided 2 condoms per 3 months then they DOUBLE that. it is so sad how they protray themselves. It si also amazing that they formed two countries within South Africa for people with AIDS. I just wish the world would wake-up. I lost a dear friend to AIDS last year and his own father would not go see him. They had him cremated and not memorial mass. Just so sad.
