Child abuse has risen in the past four years by over fifty percent in New Zealand. This article shows how difficult it is for teachers to communicate this crime. For instance, as the article states, a teacher would rather report a false case, than to let a valid one go under the rug. Another struggle of this situation for teachers is that if they do report their findings, they find the child still with bruises on them, which can be very devastating. A ray on sunshine is now spreading across the sky of New Zealand, because of the personal concern from Prime Minister John Key, which will bring the government’s attention to improve response time to help these suffering children walk into a better lifestyle.
This is such a heart-breaking story to me as a future educator, because I will have to deal with this issue one day. I am such a tender person so the slightest bit of fraudulence makes my heart takes over my brain. I want to just pull that child out of that wretched environment and save them from the dark place they see, so I can relate to how the teachers must feel. Children, (humans in general) need some form of positive encouragement and affection from the people who are constant in their life. If a child is being told that they are not good enough to meet their parent’s expectations and if it seems that the parent or guardian is always upset with them then the child beings to think that they really are no good, or that they cause distress on the ones they love. As a student teacher I can see how important it is to show your students you care, that way the child has at least one person to live for and to know they are loved by.
