Traditionally, the human rights of women in Egypt have been underestimated by society. so many young Egyptian women have been tortured by circumcision, and more than approximately 85 percent of women have a experience of sexual assault.
However, this social pressure on women has been changing. the first evidence of it was a new launched law which bans women circumcision. and the movement of Egyptian women has been increased. During this uprising in Egypt, the participation rate is vividly high. the women are lively participating in demonstration, mentally and physically. women are giving people medical treat, serving food and raising voices together towards government. One innocent woman lost her live during this progress and now many Egyptian people are waving the flag with her face on it.
This is the part describs the situation in Egypt. "Protests have not just arisen in Cairo but throughout cities and towns in Egypt. Al Jazeera, reporting on protests in Alexandria on 1/30 at 12:18pm EST, said that women in the city of Alexandria were headed to the streets, participating in the protests. Interestingly, many of the banners and signs were written in English, not just addressing Mubarak’s regime but also foreign press and Western leaders. Today, Al Jazeera showed images of protesters, many including women."
This rapid change is unlikely to happen in the country which underestimates women's human rights. Now women are no longer sitting back and watch their daughter and friends are been discriminated. the vivid movement in recent rally illustrate their brave decision. it is also from the thoughts that women's human rights, further human rights itself can no longer be guaranteed by the now government. to be guaranteed their rights, the basic human rights should be assured first.
I hope this enlightment will last long and will affect their neighbors. Not only Egypt, there are still many countries with low human rights for women, and surprisingly, There are still many countries which women circumcision exists. Therefore, following the movement towards democracy, I hope the number of women who are willing to advocate for it would be increased.
