U.S. anti-drug agents shot in roadside attack in Mexico; one dead

Illegal drug trafficking has long been a major global issue since the early 1980s.  Global law enforcement agencies have struggled to maintain and stop drug trafficking in major countries, such as Mexico, Columbia, and Peru, especially because new drug trafficking tactics are always changing.  The Mexico-United States drug trafficking cartel is one of the major drug operations globally.  Also, high violence and crime follows the illegal drug distribution throughout Mexico and into the United States, which has recently resulted in a United States anti-drug agents being shot in a roadside attack leaving one dead and other wounded.  This roadside attack occurred in northern Mexico on Tuesday February 15, 2011, following a spike in a “lethal escalation in the ongoing drug fight here, officials said.”  The criminals have not yet been found, however; the Mexican government has put effort into solving this case because they do not want the U.S. government to impose again like they did in the 1985 attack against a U.S. undercover drug agent who was killed in the line of duty in Mexico. Since then attacks against U.S. law enforcement in Mexico are rare, but the violence related to stopping drug distribution is still on the rise. Within the last four years more than 34,000 people have died in drug violence in Mexico.
Over the years drug trafficking efforts have been reduced due to better strategies from law enforcement agencies globally, however; better tactics can be used to put a stop to the sources where these drugs are being made because it leads to violence and crime in the communities that the drugs are constantly reaching.
