Killing of Iranian Protestors

Iran has been accused of the killing and abuse of peaceful protestors and political opponents by their security forces by our Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. Human rights leaders and political activists have been targeted on the streets by regime leaders. Ex-government officials and their families, former members of parliament, student leaders, professors, and journalist have also recently been gathered up by authorities. According to a treasury statement, Prosecutor General Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi and Mohammad Reza Naqdi, the commander of Iran's Basij paramilitary force have been targeted by U.S. Treasury and State Department for being responsible for human rights violations. Dolatabadi has been accused with charging protestors for being “enemies of God,” a violation that carries the death penalty, during the December 2009 protest that ended in chaos after security forces clashed with anti-government demonstrators. Under Dolatabadi's watch, reformists, human rights activists, journalists and others have been arrested as part of the broad crackdown on the opposition movement by the Iranian government. Also, within the confines of Tehran's notorious Evin prison, some detainees were abused and coerced into making false and self-incriminating statements, the statement said. The United States remains deeply concerned and is unhappy with Iranian protestors being persecuted by their own government.
