China has always been able to censor most if not all the info that comes in through the internet but the U.S government has found a way to get info in through e-mail. The government used a method called Feed Over e-mail, FOE, in order to bypass the blocks the Chinese government put in place to block unwanted material. The Broadcasting Board of Governors tested this through the Freedom of Information Act and has "performed well in all tests." Some people think that this wouldn’t have gone over well if this happen in Egypt right now. Where in Egypt, the government completely blocked internet access. "If there's a blackout ... nothing works," BBG Director of Information Security Ken Berman said. In China this is the best method to get information that is blocked, because the e-mail compresses the data then decodes it so the recover can see the info. "FOE messages are compressed and encoded so normal keyword-filtering technologies won't be able to censor," the BBG report said. It’s good to know that the government can’t completely block the internet. Others are also taking part to “battle foreign censors,” forming groups called the Alliance of Youth Movements. These tests were done in February and June 2010, where they sent e-mails to China, Hong Kong, and Beijing. They all reported well with none of the data messed with. This is good that information on the internet can still be obtained in places like China this can also be done in places like Iraq where they have blocks on the internet also.
