A world without Islam? Blog #3

Since the very beginning of time people all around the world have clashed over certain issues, such as religion and politics. Many historians and other experts have tried to find the causes of these problems. Whether it be religious intolerance, miscommunication, or just plain ignorance. One author, Graham Fuller, has recently come out with with a new book, arguing that Islam is the foundation to most of these problems. He clearly states that the world we live in today was not much different in ancient times between the west and middle east. He attempts to use points between the Western Church in Rome and the Eastern Church in Constantinople, citing the great schism. He then goes on to say that that both churches religious explanations were lies. That the real reason lies in factors such as "politics, economics, power, geography, imperialism, colonialism and intervention into the Muslim world." Fuller tries to say that had the middle remained Christian the problems that exist today would be nonexistent. He continues on by saying his main reason for writing such a book is to change or shake up the public's view on what they normally hear in the news.

I would have to disagree with Mr. Fuller. While I can certainly see what he is trying to accomplish, I think he went about it in the wrong way. To me it sounds as if he is trying to say that history started after 9/11. Instead of this bringing peace among people I think it creates more tension and hatred. For those people who are already closed minded this will doing absolutely nothing but give them more reasons to justify their mindset. I do not think this is fair to the Muslims not only in the middle but all around the world. Yes, 9/11 was a horrific and dark part of history, however it is not right to persecute those who had nothing to do with it. As a society we all must learn to coexist or else I truly believe it will lead to our demise.
