In my previous blog postings I have discussed different crime stories that have occurred across the globe. In the article I have read for this week it discusses the punishments for crimes. I have mentioned options on how to stop crime from happening but what about how people are sentenced? The death penalty seems to be favored among most Americans of today. Statistics of 2010 prove that 29 percent oppose it while 64 percent agree to it. The capital punishment rates have dropped over the last few decades but now new ways of punishment are being considered such as a lethal injection. This lethal injection consists of large dose of anesthetic. The article says that this method has never been used on humans. It is usually used in the euthanization of animals. Prison officials are debating whether this method is appropriate or not to use. This is occurring in the United States so I question whether other countries are using this already or considering this method also. According to Clarkprosceutor.org, there are over a dozen states in the United States that use lethal injection. China, Guatemala, the Philippines, and Thailand also use this method for capital punishment.
Some countries such as Delaware, New Hampshire and Washington still hang criminals as their method of capital punishment. States such as Arizona, California and Missouri use lethal gas. The study shows a good amount of research about different methods. I am not sure that I agree with this method or am I sure that I agree with the death penalty. I know serious crimes deserve serious punishments but I am not sure I agree with killing criminals.
