blog #10 - Saudi Arabia: Let Women Vote

The government of Saudi Arabia's refusal for letting women vote in municipal election in September 2011 has approved officially. This is a violation of human rights as not only women, but also citizens who have rights to vote. The President said the country is not ready for having women as participants for vote.

Nadya Khalife, Middle East women's rights researcher for Human Rights Watch, she said "The government of Saudi Arabia cannot expect Saudi women to believe that a lack of preparation is behind the denial of their rights to political participation. This was a preposterous excuse in 2005, and even more so now. This crude sex discrimination is an insult to millions of Saudi women."

Thinking back of the definition of human rights, it is not a thing that someone else can take away for their own reason. In 21st century, the right to vote is ought to be considered as one of the fundamental rights that people are supposed to have to live well and live as they want.

This phenomena comes from misbelieve in Middle East that women have less capable of being involved in political issue. The discrimination against women is going on all around Africa and Middle East countries. To achieve of enhancing overall women's human rights, the discouraged stance of women should be improved first. The movement of women in a field of politics was vigorous and has become an issue. The government of Saudi Arabia need to listen to the voice of global society and correct those misbelieves about their women.
