David Frost, UK Chamber of Commerce Director, says that too few UK students reach adulthood with the skills they need to succeed in the workforce. He called the students, “victims of education failure.” He claimed the students are not capable of work upon leaving schools and that it costs businesses billions of dollars in training when the students should be already prepared. Britain’s development rankings have fallen to 28th in mathematics and 16th in science, which places it behind poorer nations such as Estonia and Slovakia. A survey done of British high school graduates found that 20% of the students were functionally illiterate. Michael Gove, Education Secretary, is hoping to open technical colleges to teach students practical skills alongside of academic subjects. Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister, wants to close the gap between the rich and the poor and the best way to do that is to reintroduce grammar schools for all societal classes. So far though the government has not revealed any plans to go back to selective education.

Again we see how a country is trying to close the gap between the rich and the poor. It seems no country has been able to figure out how to accomplish that yet. Britain is a strong country, yet its education is lacking which the survey clearly points out. They have horrible rankings in academic subjects and need to refocus their attention on their students because they will be leading the country one day. We also see how education really plays a part in the economy. If these students are not educated properly it can really hurt the economy in the future because students will not be prepared for adulthood and maintaining a job. Education affects many factors of a country. The whole world needs to rethink how their teaching their students and start to provide them with the right schooling.

I completely agree. Without proper education, a society suffers. Both the teachers and the students need to put more effort into the education process to make it work better. And like you said, the gap between a wealthy student's education and a poor student's education should not exist. All student should be able to receive the same quality of education.
