New York based group Human Rights Watch "slammed" the Yemeni army's use of child soldiers to protect those protesting against the country's president, Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Workers in the group have personally come across multiple armed soldiers who "[appear] to be younger than 18 years old."

The advocacy group asked the US to stop lending military assistance to Yemen unless the use of children in combat is curbed.

Not that I necessarily equate the two, but this reminds me of certain instances of the Vietnam War, when teenagers as young as sixteen would lie about their age to enlist and serve. Those young men would certainly have been viewed more admirably than these Yemeni boys, who, though admittedly younger, may have similar ambitions. Naturally, of course, the Yemeni boys must have been brainwashed into fighting.
