Gangs of men, some with swords and sticks, roam violence-hit Syrian city after protests
Summary: In Latakia, Syria, gangs of men armed with swords and rifles roamed the streets of this Syrian city. Syria has been rocked by more than a week of demonstrations that began in Daraa, but escalated nationwide on Friday. Several of these demonstrations have ended with security forces killing dozens of protestors. It is said that in all of this, President Assad has been nowhere to be found. So the question is where is he? One of Assad’s top adviser announces that they have begun studying change to the emergency law and other measures. Syrian officials say that 12 people died in Latakia, but security forces were not blamed. Instead, the officials blamed unidentified gunmen firing from rooftops for their deaths.
Analysis: Things seem to be spiraling out of control in Syria. Things have escalated from peaceful protest to a bloody slaughtering due to the fact that security forces are killing protestors with or without permission from the government. It has not been said whether or not they are acting under a direct order, however if it is a direct order, things can only get worse from here. If things continue the way that they are, there is sure to be a full blown war on the hands of the Syrian people.
