iPads Replacing Books

With the invention of the printing press, books became a popular tool of learning and entertainment. Now over 1500 years later, there are people who want to replace books with the new iPad 2. Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press, is probably rolling over in his grave. In Auburn, Maine “the iPad will become a permanent tool of learning” for children. Superintendent Tom Morrill “declared that the iPad is ‘even more important than a book.’" Though the iPad makes almost any book accessible it is not a reasonable replacement. For starters, not every child can afford the iPad. Also, it would have to be charged in order for children to read. Books do not have to be plugged up into a wall. It is not always easy to see the screen on an iPad but with books, one can read them almost anywhere. “Books have held such endearing power for a long time. So many people have been brought up to bury their noses in books in order to progress in life.” It is going to be hard to turn people from the book to the newest technological fad. If a child is given an iPad that has so many different things on it like games, music, and videos, it is going to be hard to make sure that he or she is only reading during class. It will be annoying to have to monitor all of the children and their use of the iPad.
Just because one can access a book on an iPad does not mean that we should do away with books completely.
