On March 25, 2011 a report about an amount of radioactive particles from a damaged nuclear power plant is making its way around the world. Residents in Japan who lived a few kilometers from the power facility were told to evacuate because of the mixed radiation exposure, weather and harsh living conditions. When it comes to drinking tap water, WHO claimed there isn't any sudden health risk but certain conditions could fluctuate. WHO needed the people to stay cautious and listen to authorities so they will know about the latest measurements of radiation in the water. The standards for adults and children may be different, but the bit of radioactivity in the tap water doesn't mean its not good for humans to drink. WHO has put together advice for drinking the tap water along with public health risk.
I remember growing up I use to drink tap water all the time, but going into school with science classes teachers taught that tap water wasn't healthy because of certain particles within the water. So since then I believed that theory. Now what WHO is trying to say is that drinking the tap water isn't life threatening, but a constant habit of drinking this water for years could cause long term health risk. Personally I feel that there should be other options to drinking water. When people get use to eating or drinking a certain substance, it becomes a habit and could cause issues. This issue is happening all across the world because water is the number one resource of survival and without that pure substance the chance of disease or even death would increase.
