Blog #1: Hati's Silent Killer

Hati, only one of many to be considered a 3rd world country, is experiencing many major health problems. One main health problem, primarily associated with children, is the lack of nutrient rich food available in the country. With the amount of nutrient rich foods being scarce and very expensive, malnourishment is a major problem that can stun growth of bones, muscle, and ultimately lead to death if untreated. One nonprofit company, Meds and Food for Kids, has researched and developed a complex paste, similar to the texture and consistency of peanut butter, that has been crammed with nutrients. One of the leaders of this nonprofit group, Thomas Stehl, describes in this article how these kids need more than just a plate of peas and carrots every few days, but a loaded, nutritiously balanced meal. If a child consumes this paste everyday for 3 weeks, the child's chances of staying malnourished severely drop.

The information present in this article is a major social problem on the basis that malnutrition is a sickness that harms and even kills millions of children each year. With malnutrition being a major cause of child death in 3rd world countries, innocent lives are being lost to something that is easily preventable. With nonprofit organizations leading the way to stop malnutrition and other child related diseases, many interventions are being attempted in order to save the lives of millions.
