In Ohio, Obama Emphasizes School Upgrades as Part of Jobs Proposal

This week after announcing his job plan, President Obama traveled to Columbus, Ohio, the first stop on his country tour to gain public support of the bill. During this visit, the president focused on his $25 billion plan to improve schools. He says that this money will go toward modernizing and reconstructing over 35,000 school buildings that are falling apart all over the United States. Public rural schools will take priority to the money as well as schools financed through the Bureau of Indian Education. This project would create thousands of jobs for the construction industry and also put teachers back to work after recent budget cuts. Congress still has doubts that this bill will work, but they are trying to keep a moderate opinion.

This bill is very important to the United States as a whole, not just to teachers. The school buildings our children are sent to are in bad condition. We cannot expect them to learn effectively in that kind of environment. An important thing to keep in mind while thinking about this bill is the number of jobs it will create internationally. Not only will we need construction workers in the US to do the work, we will need materials from foreign countries. With more people in the work force, there will be more revenue into the US economy, which will trickle down to more work overseas. If Americans are making and spending more money, more products will need to be created and more workers will need to produce it. If this bill is passed, it will not only benefit the United States, but it will also benefit the world economy.
