Recently in the Mexican border town two bodies were discovered hanging from a bridge in plain sight. The bodies were horribly disfigured, and also left at the scene was a message. This message stated that the cartel wanted civilians to stop reporting crimes to the local law enforcement. It also threated the users of certain social media sites, because this was how people were contacting the police and others about the crimes. This has become a growing trend in cartel intimidation since social media is becoming more readily available in Mexico. The Mexican government refuses to release details about the crimes because it might put others in danger. Mexican officials fear the cartels, because they are known to target the families and friends of those caught in the crimes. But also the cartels are known to target the investigators of the crimes itself. This fear also causes problems in the investigation, because investigators rush their investigations in order to distance themselves from the case.

This is a growing social problem since this violence is continually spilling over into the United States. Also the continuing problems in Mexico are having economic effects all over Central American and the United States. Since many of the victims of the cartels crimes are laborers who have no way to defend themselves. This causes work place problems that then in turn cause economic problems. Some companies have even stopped sending jobs into Mexico because of the cartels.
