Amanda Knox to go free

In my most recent blog entry, I blogged about Amanda Knox, the US citizen who was incarcerated for the 2007 murder of her roommate, in Italy. On Monday, October 3, "Italian Judge, Claudio Pratillo Hellman, read the appeals court decision: "Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito are free."" This statement overturns the murder convictions of Amanda Knox and her boyfriend. Amanda didn't get off 'scot-free' though. She was found guilty of criminal deframation of the club owner, Patrick Lumuma, whom she accused of killing her roommate, Kercher. She was sentenced to 3 years, time served. After serving four years in prison, she is finally a free woman. Evidence against her was not strong enough to uphold the 26 year sentence she was initially given.

I am very happy this turned out the way it did. However, justice still needs to be served for Meredith Kercher. Hopefully Italian officials will continue to search and crack this case. I could not imagine sitting in a prison in a foreign country away from my family for four years for a crime I know I did not commit. This is truly a blessing for Amanda Knox and her family. She is finally able to enjoy the company of her family in the comfort of her own home of Seattle, Washington. I really hope that she is thankful of this and is careful of who she surrounds herself with, by watching the company she keeps. This is a lesson to all people, especially those going to college, to always be aware of your surroundings and to not let your guard down so easily; people are capable of doing the unthinkable.
