Blog 9- Kandahar Afghanistan

This week I decided to write about the inequality plaguing the Middle East. My boyfriend in currently in Bagram, Afghanistan but we recently found out he is being moved to Kandahar, Afghanistan within the next few weeks. Kandahar is controlled by NATO forces but the article that I will be presenting tells about the attack the base faced on Monday and well as throughout the week,
Kandahar, Afghanistan for a long time has been the center of Taliban forces because of the lack of government control as well as turmoil the city has faced after the Soviet war. Kandahar was once a city that flourished with crops and the center of trade but once the Soviets moved into Kandahar and pretty much destroyed the lively hood of many people it became easy to give into the rebelliousness of the Taliban, especially since many citizens didn’t have a choice. This inequality caused by the many wars that have plagued Afghanistan is one that will continue to wreak havoc on the people of this city. With no government control, no way to make money to support your family, it is quite easy to give up and join the crowd of people that are angry and want indirect control over government policies so they can do what they want without facing consequences.
Though the inequality in Afghanistan is high and NATO forces are in Kandahar to help build schools and road so the economy can begin to flourish again, the Taliban simply does not want them there. On October 24, 2011 they were attacked by insurgents and are currently under attack with gunfire and threats of suicide bombers. Though the US is attempting to help make this country more equal and help the citizens sometimes we have to realize that every country is not meant to be like the United States.
